Fishing References

Hacienda Las Palmas is a fishing resort on Lake Guerrero that I heartily will recommend to all who want to go bass fishing south of the border. It absolutely is one of the finest, not only in Mexico but in all of Latin America. Accommodations, staff, and meals all are first-class.

During my too-brief stay there, I also had the good luck to catch a 12-pound, 4-ounce (12.25) largemouth, which equals my biggest bass ever.

I can't wait to go back to Guerrero to try to break that record, and, when I do go, I definitely will stay at Hacienda Las Palmas.          Robert Montgomery   Senior Writer/BASSMASTER Magazine   ESPN/BASS

Hi Debbie...
Well, you did it again!  We had a great trip and we all look forward to our return to Las Palmas. After we had caught 75 bass in our first afternoon of fishing we felt that beating the best ever single day catch of 140 fish was well within our grasp.  When our buddies raised the bar and challenged us to top 200 bass in a single day we decided to go for it.  When we awoke at 5:30 am to a "Norther" cold front, we, Ed and our guide Carlos all had our serious doubts.  Nevertheless, we had our 200th bass at 3:30PM and went on to finish the day with 234 (boated and released) fish.  Lake Guerrero is the only place where I can even imagine that this would be possible.

As a three time guest (and more to come) I have always said that if they were not biting, I'd still love it (the great food, hospitality, accommodations and the wonderful staff).  The quality fishing makes Hacienda Las Palmas a serious fisherman's  5 star list of MUST destinations.          Doug Wyckoff  DNJWYCK@aol.com    fishing with...   Ralph Laster FLW Tour Pro Angler Lake Of The Ozarks, Missouri

Thank you for the beautiful trophy commemorating the great day that Doug and I experienced while guests at your beautiful resort. Lake Guerrero and your staff and guides have been a part of some of my greatest bass fishing memories: 10 lb 11 oz. and 10 lb 10 oz. largemouth in 1999, and now 234 bass in one day. My new goal is to crack the 12 lb barrier - tell Carlos to get ready. See you soon.          Ralph Laster  JERRISUEL@aol.com

I apologize for the delay in writing but wanted to let you and Ed know how much I enjoyed my trip to Hacienda Las Palmas this past February.  As you know, this was my 4th consecutive year there and eat year the fishing seems to get better.  Everyone in our party plans to return in 2004 along with 1 or 2 new people.

The most successful day I've ever had fishing anywhere was Feb. 26th at Lake Guerrero.  I caught a 10 lb. 1 oz., 6 lb. 9 oz., several 3l - 4 lb., and a bunch of 1 - 2 lb. bass on that day.  I caught the 10 lb 1 oz. on a watermelon/red flake super fluke.  I caught the 6 lb. 9 oz. fishing on topwater.  Even my partner for the day caught a 5 lb 6 oz. and this was his first fishing trip.  See you next year.          Tom Austin

Hi, Debbie,
Just a quick note to thank you for the great trip Dave, Ian and I had this past week. The service was as always excellent... thanks Ed. Now, to the fishing. As you know I have been coming to Guerrero for 8 years now. Let me tell you that the lake is in great shape. The new water level (the highest I have seen in 10 years) has re-created a great fishery.  We fished for two days, four outings.

Day One:
I caught somewhere around 40 fish in the morning. The largest was just short of 8 lb.. I also caught 11 more fish over 5 lb. So I had a great morning by anyone's standard. The fish are short but incredibly fat.  In the afternoon we had a little tougher fishing after the cold front came through.  I still caught 25 fish, 5 over 5 lb..

Day Two:
The next day we found the hot spot in the river. We tied up to a tree in the wind and I caught 35 fish. The average size 4 lb.. The largest was 6 lb.. What a school of bass. Incredible!!!  I did hook two large fish. (10 lbs+) but as in most cases they came off.

Let me finish by saying that the lake is in great shape. I have never caught so many quality fish in two day's in my life. Before coming down I had heard rumors of the decline of Lake Guerrero.  What a joke, the lake is better than ever!

I thought you might like a report on our fabulous fishing trip out of Hacienda Las Palmas on May 3, 4 & 5, 2001. The only thing that exceeded the great fishing were the accommodations at the Hacienda and the hospitality of you and Ed.

During the 3 full days of fishing our group of 14 fisherman caught one 9.5pounder, two 9.0 pounders, one 8.0 pounder, one 6.5 pounder, one 6.0 pounder, and four 5.5 pounders.          Bob Haddock  bob.haddock@us.abb.com

Cliff and I wanted to thank you, Ed and your staff for an outstanding fishing adventure.  The Hacienda had all the amenities needed  for die-hard fisherman and for that matter all the amenities needed for those that may just want to hangout at the lodge.  Your guides put us on fish each day and knew of every hot spot on the lake and river.  We both came down looking to beat our personal best weights and we did!  Thanks for the tip on the Watermelon lizards.   My almost 9 pound bass and my 6 pounder came on a watermelon Arkie - saltin crawlin lizard. Cliff's 7.3 came on a Zoom baby-bass super fluke.  Look forward to seeing you again next year.  Thanks again.          Vince Smith  lsmith928@earthlink.net
