Commercial Flight Information:
Please plan on arriving in Harlingen, Texas on your day of arrival between 12:00 – 1:00 pm.  You should make your commercial flight departure on your day of departure between 1:00 – 2:00 pm.  The van will leave the lodge to take you back to Harlingen at 7:00 am.  It is approximately a 4 hour drive.  It is important to schedule your commercial travel around our recommended times as we are having to coordinate many groups coming and going and we do not want you to have to sit at the airport too long.  Special arrangements due to late arrivals and departures may incur an additional charge.  Southwest Airlines and Continental Airlines fly into Harlingen.

Van Transportation:
Upon arrival at the airport, go to the Baggage Claim area.  Our ground transportation personnel will meet you there.  If you have not been contacted by the time your luggage arrives, please call the office.

The driver can stop before crossing the border if you want to eat lunch or you can pick up some sandwiches at or near the airport.  There will be beer and soft drinks in the van for your trip.  Also, there will be a rest stop approximately half-way.  The total trip will take approximately four hours.  You will arrive in camp in time to relax, prepare for the next day of hunting and eat dinner.

Guns:
The lodge provides quality shotguns and we highly recommend that you use them.  The use of lodge guns is included in the standard package price.  If you are bringing in your own guns, we recommend that you bring two.  Please call the office to get a quote for the cost of a gun permit.  Ammunition is provided only for 12 and 20 gauge guns.  A hard gun case is required for commercial airlines.  Also bring a soft case for private aircraft and field use.

Tips – The following are minimum recommended tips:

1.        Tips to the birdboys are $15.00 per birdboy per outing.  This tip should be paid directly to the birdboys at the end of the hunt.

2.         Head Guide Tips (this can be divided among all the hunter’s at the lodge):

Quail (Emelio) - $50 per outing

Duck (Mike) - $50 per outing

Dove (Mike and/or Emelio) - $50 per outing

3.         We recommend a tip to the house staff of $100.00 per hunter.  This is for our 3 day hunting trip.  If you hunt extra days we recommend that you tip an additional $10 - $15 per hunter per day.  This tip should be given directly to the camp manager to distribute to the staff (cooks, housekeepers, grounds keepers, bird cleaners, etc.)  at the end of the trip.

4.         Recommended tips to the van driver is $5.00 per person each way.

Clothing:
The weather during whitewing season is generally very warm so dress accordingly.   Whitewing doves flare from bright colors, therefore, for hunting we suggest khaki or camouflage clothing, hunting boots or heavy walking shoes and camouflage caps.  In addition to hunting clothes, include slacks, shorts, shirts and swimsuit.

The weather during December through February for quail and duck hunting, brings temperature extremes, usually cold in January and February with sunny and mild conditions between cold fronts.   Temperatures usually vary from the low 40's to the low 70's.

Long pants and jackets are recommended as a minimum.  Other cold weather hunting clothes should be considered in late December through February.  Footwear needs to be comfortable hunting boots.  It is REQUIRED that all of our quail hunters wear one piece of clothing that is orange, preferably a hat or vest, and also snake chaps or leggings.
