We arrived at the lodge
Friday January 8th.
The temperature was hovering
around the 50 degree mark
with north wind. We fished
for 4 hours and caught one
8lb, one 7lb, and around 25
other some 3-4lbs, so not
bad. The next morning we
woke up to a low temperature
in the mid-high 30’s, so we
delayed going fishing until
8am. It was still very
cold, but with the sun it
felt a little better. We
still caught 25-30 fish,
with an other 8lb, and a
7lb. Sunday morning it was
brutal, the low was around
26 and with a light north
wind the wind chill was in
the teens. We did delay the
fishing until 8:30am, it was
still well below freezing,
but the sun was out, so we
decided to give it a go. We
ended up with a 7lb, 6lb,
5lb and around 15-20 others.
What a cold day!! Monday
morning the low was 45, it
felt like shorts weather,
the sun did not come out all
day, and it ended up in the
mid 50’s. We caught 2 seven
pounders, and 10-15 others.
Tuesday the low was 50, and
we thought today is the day,
then the rains came. The
temperature did not move all
day. We caught 1 five
pounder and 25-30 others.
All the fish were caught on
Watermelon/Red brush hog’s,
except the last day, when we
only threw spinner baits in
the river. All in all, I
felt we did very good
considering we hit the
strongest cold front to hit
the lake in 8-10 years. The
fish are very close to
beginning the spawn, the
better fish we caught were
all staging to spawn.

Opening weekend at Hacienda
Las Palmas was fantastic.
We had 3 different and new
groups hunting and all of
them shot a lot of birds and
had a great time. Most have
already re-booked the dates
for next year. It has been
a dry year. The birds are
congregated around the
remaining grain fields and
eating native seeds in the
brush then flying to water.
We have had some rain in the
last few days and we
anticipate the birds to
start coming out of the
brush and start feeding on
the milo. We will keep
posting throughout the
season.

Mike,
Now that I am back in Tupelo and
catching up on all the work issues I
missed last week , I wanted to stop and
say Thank You. Last week Ronny and I had
a Great Time while visiting you and the
Lodge. I was telling Ronny on the way
back, this is always a good trip, but
this year it seemed even better.
Everything we could have asked for, was
already taken care of for us. The food
and accommodations were suburb. Even the
other guest seemed like part of our
group. I am not sure how you arranged to
get the lake levels up this year , but I
never thought I would see water at the
dock and someone fishing in the dog
kennels.
I am fortunate to be able to travel and
visit other fishing resorts around the
country, but I can honestly say from
Florida to New England to Out West, you
and your team stand out on top. I know
our misplaced luggage was not your
fault, but you and your staff provided
us with everything we need until several
people had changed their schedules and
went out of their way to get the bags to
us.
Saying all of this, simply to say a BIG
Thank You to you and all of those at the
Hacienda for a Great Time. Looking
forward to when we can visit again.

and the staff of La Hacienda Las Palmas.
Our visit last year was superb but you
guys were able to surpass even our highest expectations again this year.
What an absolutely perfect stay and series of outings we had while
guests at your lodge; which is an incredible treasure. I only wish you
could have been there to see the smiles that were ever present on ours
and our guest’s faces. The rooms, the meals, the hunts, the fishing,
the guides, the staff; were all excellent. Everyone was happy and they
are all ready to return.
